The 3 Most Powerful Lyrics from Rihanna's "What Now"
The diva's latest single has some of her most poignant lyrics yet. See 'em here and watch the dramatic music video.
Even though Rihanna released her seventh studio album Unapologetic a little over a year ago, she's still flying high off the success of the record, especially now that she's dropped "What Now" as a single. Considered to be one of the strongest songs off Unapologetic, lyrically, we thought we'd pick out the lines that stand out to us the most as the most powerful. What do you think: could these be some of RiRi's most potent lyrics of all time?
"Whatever it is, it feels like it's laughing at me through the glass of a two-sided mirror..."
Ultimately, "What Now" is all about how RiRi is feeling post-break-up. Now that she feels like she has something missing in her life again, this line points out how every time she looks in the mirror, she is essentially getting laughed at by her toughest critic: herself.
"I found the one he changed my life / But was it me that changed / And he just happened to come at the right time..."
This is quite a deep lyric line that we never thought we could expect from Ms. Fenty. How do you really know if when you're in an important relationship that feels like it changed you, was it the person? Or just you, and he showed up around the right time?
"The more I swear I'm happy, the more that I'm feeling alone..."
Yet again, another interesting perspective from the pop star. How many times have you sworn to your family and friends that you're happy, but then you are alone with your thoughts and swear you feel utterly alone? It's such a common human feeling that is expressed in RiRi's lyrics.
