Three Days Grace 'Transit Of Venus' Lyric Premiere - Part 1

Three Days Grace Lyric Premiere Image

From Saturday through Tuesday, we'll be premiering the lyrics to Three Days Grace's new album Transit of Venus. Check back each day to see three new lyrics from the band's brand new album.

Three Days Grace is the kind of band that never really goes away, even when they don't relase an album in three years. That's what a mega-hit first single will do for you, though—especially when you can find it on nearly every "best break-up songs" lists of the last few years. (Take this one for example.)

Fans will be happy to find out that Transit of Venus is full of the type of songwriting they've come to know from the band. Get a look at the lyrics to the first three songs on the album, "Sign of the Times," "Chalk Outline," and "The High Road," below:

Sign of the Times

Stock., and Jaren Johnson, EMI Blackwood Music (Canada) ltd./Blast The Scene Publishing (SOCAN/BMI), Mean Music Publishing (SOCAN/BMI) administered by Hyvetown Music Inc (SOCAN/BMI), and Sony/ATV Harmony Music / Texa Rae Music (ascap)All rights for EMI Blackwood Music (Canada) and Blast The Scene Publishing controlled and administered by EMI Blackwood Music Inc. (BMI).)

This is a sign of the times

     Another mountain to climb

The sun burns as hot as the flame in the devil's eye

     There's chaos on the rise

     The sky is raining knives

We have mistaken the toll that it's taken on you and I

The oceans have all gone dry

Venus is passing by you and I

I'll give you what you need

We have mistaken the toll that it's taken on you and I

I'll give you what you need

Chalk Outline

Written by Three Days Grace, B. Stock, and Craig Wiseman, EMI Blackwood Music (Canada) ltd./Blast The Scene Publishing (SOCAN/BMI), Mean Music Publishing (SOCAN/BMI) administered by Hyvetown Music Inc (SOCAN/BMI) and Big Loud Shirt (ASCAP) admin by Big Loud Bucks.  All rights for EMI Blackwood Music (Canada) and Blast The Scene Publishing controlled and administered by EMI Blackwood Music Inc. (BMI)

     I've been cursed

     I've been crossed

I've been beaten by the ones that get me off

     I've been cut

     I've been opened up

I've been shattered by the ones I thought I loved

You left me here like a chalk outline

On the sidewalk waiting for the rain to wash away, wash away

You keep coming back to the scene of the crime

But the dead can't speak and there's nothing left to say anyway

All you left behind is a chalk outline

I've been cold in the crypt

But not as cold as the words across your lips

     You'll be sorry baby someday

When you reach across the bed where my body used to lay

The High Road

Written by Three Days Grace, B. Stock, Don Gilmore and Chris Tompkins, EMI Blackwood Music (Canada) ltd./Blast The Scene Publishing (SOCAN/BMI), Mean Music Publishing (SOCAN/BMI) administered by Hyvetown Music Inc (SOCAN/BMI), High Speed Chase, administered by Kobalt Songs Music Publishing (ASCAP), and Big Loud Songs/Angel River Songs (ASCAP) admin by Big Loud Bucks. All rights for EMI Blackwood Music (Canada) and Blast The Scene Publishing controlled and administered by EMI Blackwood Music Inc. (BMI)

I told you I was hurt bleeding on the inside

I told you I was lost in the middle of my life

There's times I stayed alive for you

     There's times I would've died for you

There's times it didn't matter at all

Will you help me find the right way up

Or let me take the wrong way down

Will you straighten me out or make me take the long way around

I took the low road in

I'll take the high road out

I'll do whatever it takes to be the mistake you can't live without

Standing in the dark I can see your shadow

You're the only light that's breaking through the window

There's times I stayed alive for you

     There's times I would've died for you

There's times it didn't matter at all
