Trending Tuesday: 10 Songs We Love This Week
We're counting down the songs we can't stop playing this week, as well as their best lyrics!
Welcome to Trending Tuesday, our first instalment where every Tuesday we share with y'all what we're listening to on Spotify repeat after repeat. What are we streaming on the first Tuesday of 2014? Have a look below and share with us what you think of the tracks:
10. Lucy Hale - You Sound Good To Me
Why it's trending: Released literally today, actress-turned-singer Lucy Hale of Pretty Little Liars fame has previously claimed that music is her first love. Citing Shania Twain and Faith Hill as her musical inspirations, the country cutie's debut single is a catchy foot-stomper that's all about comparing your love for a person to the love of your favorite sounds.
Best lyric line: "Like an old song on the radio / That you grew up to and everybody knows / Rushin' of the water when the river rolls / Windin' wild and free..."
9. Bombay Bicycle Club - Carry Me
Why it's trending: Gearing up to release their fourth studio album So Long, See You Tomorrow, Bombay Bicycle Club are getting back on the musical radar. They released this single "Carry Me" back in early 2013, and we're getting excited to hear the record when it drops on February 4th.
Best lyric line: "If anybody wants to know / Our love is getting low / Lighting the cracks in the road / You carry me..."
8. Avicii - Dear Boy
Why it's trending: One of last year's most infectious pop records is still going strong for us musically in 2014. Avicii's three singles from the record so far have definitely impressed us, but it's this banger from True that gets us bouncing every time.
Best lyric line: "Oh, dear boy, I wanna follow you / You're a wild boy, I am a wild girl, too..."
7. Britney Spears - Now That I Found You
Why it's trending: As a bonus track off BritBrit's 8th album Britney Jean, we're a little confused as to why this song didn't make the original track list cut. Sure, it's Avicii-inspired and all, but it's such a fun, kitschy number that totally works for the pop superstar.
Best lyric line: "Lived a wasteful life in a hateful city / There was no love, just pain and pity 'til I found you..."
6. Lady Gaga - Mary Jane Holland
Why it's trending: It's a fan favorite off Gaga's ARTPOP, which is jam-packed with fist-raising anthems like "Mary Jane Holland". With an arena-sized chorus and tongue-in-cheek lyrics, it's slowly starting to be a contender for the best ARTPOP track in our books.
Best lyric line: "I know that Mom and Dad think I'm a mess / But it's alright, because I am rich as piss..."
5. American Authors - Best Day Of My Life
Why it's trending: Featured in the soundtrack for the new blockbuster The Secret Life Of Walter Mitty, as well as a handful of other commercials and television shows, this uplifting single is reminiscent of alt-rock hitmakers Imagine Dragons or singer/songwriter collective OneRepublic. No wonder it's trending!
Best lyric line: "I had a dream so big and loud / I jumped so high I touched the clouds..."
4. A Great Big World and Christina Aguilera - Say Something
Why it's trending: Can you imagine Christina Aguilera calling you up because she loves your song so much and wants to be featured on it? That's what happened to indie duo A Great Big World, when they released this tragically melancholic single, and the rest is history.
Best lyric line: "And I will swallow my pride / You're the one that I love / And I'm saying goodbye..."
3. Idina Menzel - Let It Go
Why it's trending: People are loving the soundtrack for the movie Frozen, maybe even more than the flick itself, and it could be because of legendary musical maven Idina Menzel singing the film's biggest hit.
Best lyric line: "I don't care what they're going to say / Let the storm rage on / The cold never bothered me anyway..."
2. Eminem ft. Rihanna - The Monster
Why it's trending: It's the biggest song in the country! It's Eminem! And Rihanna! Together! Again! 'Nuff said.
Best lyric line: "You're trying to save me / Stop holding your breath / And you think I'm crazy / Yeah, you think I'm crazy / Well, that's nothing..."
1. Beyonce - XO
Why it's trending: Ever since Queen Bey dropped her surprise album, simply titled Beyonce, near the tail-end of December, it's been a battle of deciding the best track from the record. We haven't decided QUITE yet what our fave is, but "XO" is high up on the list right now. Can't stop playing it...
Best lyric line: "I love it like XO / You love me like XO / You kill me boy XO..."
