Happy Trending Tuesday, everybody! This is our second edition of our latest feature, where we count down the top 10 songs that we can't get enough of at the moment. This week, we've been playing track after track off Spotify, which includes a song by not one but two famous Latin pop stars, as well as a comeback track from a trio of "Pumped Up Kicks" hit makers. Join us in our countdown, if you so please:
10. MisterWives - Reflections
Why it's trending: It's from one of 2014's newest releases, the Reflections EP, and it's by one of our favorite up-and-coming acts, MisterWives. We like 'em so much, we had to get the handwritten lyrics to every song off their new EP! This song could be our favorite off the release. *dances subtly at desk*
Best lyric line: "Put me on the shelf / Discipline myself / To let the sparks die out / I'm shattering anything that has reflections of you..."
9. Sleeper Agent - Waves
Why it's trending: With some of the most lovely lyrics we've heard in a long time, indie-pop-rock group Sleeper Agent are back with a new single that is beautifully apocalyptic. This could be the band's breakout year with their fresh track making some "Waves"!
Best lyric line: "At least we made some waves / We spit them back, too..."
8. SoMo - Ride
Why it's trending: R&B/pop singer SoMo is doing his best R.Kelly with this spicy track, and it's just a little NSFW in case you were planning on blasting it in a popular place. Hopefully you have a fan next to you!
Best lyric line: "Poison in our veins, but we don't even care / Candles dripping on your body, baby this ain't truth or dare..."
7. John Newman - Gold Dust
Why it's trending: Everybody keeps claiming that 2014 is going to be the year for John Newman to break out, and it seems like the claims are correct! His debut record Tribute has just dropped in the US, and the soul singer's track "Gold Dust" is one of our favorites off the release.
Best lyric line: "I know it's hard to leave it / To say we've been defeated / But everything around me has changed..."
6. Pharrell Williams - Happy
Why it's trending: Because it's Pharrell, duh! In all fairness, the famous producer has had quite the successful year, and with a song off the Despicable Me 2 soundtrack as well, he's definitely got a lot to be "Happy" about.
Best lyric line: "I'm happy / Clap along if you feel like that's what you wanna do..."
5. Foster The People - Coming Of Age
Why it's trending: The freshest of the freshest tracks (dropped today!), Foster The People have returned with their smooth, rockin' new single "Coming Of Age". Check out the cool music video for the track off our site as well!
Best lyric line: "You know I try to live without regrets / I'm always moving forward and not looking back / But I tend to leave a trail of death while I'm moving ahead..."
4. Lea Michele - Cannonball
Why it's trending: Lea Michele has proven herself to be a fighter over the past six months or so, going through some major personal turmoil. Naturally, she chose to hone the pain into music, making her single "Cannonball" all that more memorable.
Best lyric line: "I will start living today / Today, today I close the door / I got this new beginning and I will fly / I'll fly like a cannonball..."
3. Beyonce - Drunk In Love
Why it's trending: We know that this song dropped in December, but how could we even stop listening to this utterly insane track by Queen Bey? Serfbard. *drops mic*
Best lyric line: "We woke up in the kitchen saying / 'How in hell did this s*** happen?'..."
2. Shakira ft. Rihanna - Can't Remember To Forget You
Why it's trending: We won't lie: when we first heard that Shakira and Rihanna were releasing a song together, we were expecting a pop banger to end all pop bangers. Instead, the pair put out what sounds like a track that could have been off Bruno Mars' latest album. Nevertheless, it's some catchy-as-heck stuff.
Best lyric line: "I keep forgetting I should let you go / But when you look at me, the only memory, is us kissing in the moonlight..."
1. Enrique Iglesias ft. Pitbull - I'm A Freak
Why it's trending: Why is it that whenever you add Pitbull to the mix, the song ends up being a song that never leaves your head? Enrique & Pit's bouncy new jam is our fave of the week, no buts about it.
Best lyric line: "'Cause I'm a freak / The way you're poppin' and droppin' / All over me / No, I don't want you to stop it..."
