Annual music, film, and interactive art showcase South By Southwest (more commonly known as SXSW) is going down March 7th to 16th in Austin, Texas, and the 2014 showcase artists have just been announced. There are hundreds of buzzworthy bands, artists, and musicians all heading south for the conference / music festival, and we can barely stand our excitement for the event. SXSW is known for bringing out surprise guests at the last minute (Justin Timberlake, Snoop Dogg, and Arcade Fire have all randomly shown up before) but for now, we're stoked to see the following 5 artists come March:
5. Twin Forks
Led by Chris Carraba of Dashboard Confessional fame, Twin Forks is a new folk-rock act that made a name for themselves last year with their catchy ditty "Cross My Mind". We premiered the lyric video for the easy-listening track, and with their debut album due out in 2014, we predict a big year for Twin Forks.
4. A Great Big World
It's been a great big success so far for A Great Big World! The indie-rock singer/songwriting duo got their big break when none other than Christina Aguilera called them up and wanted to be featured on their heartbreaking ode "Say Something". The boys'll be sure to kill it at their showcase.
3. Action Bronson
Critically-acclaimed chef-turned-rapper Action Bronson from Queens, NY, was on a lot of people's radars last year, and even the year before that. But with the release of his major-label EP Saaab Stories last summer, as well as being in the midst of recording his first LP, who knows? Action Bronson could be a household name after his SXSW performance.
2. American Authors
American Authors have been good friends of ours since the spring of last year -- not to brag or anything. It's just that the rockers have completely blown up throughout the span of 2013, and ever since we premiered the lyric video for their song "Believer"...we kinda feel like we helped them out in their journey to success. Just sayin'.
1. Charli XCX
As one of pop's most out-there singer/songwriters, we've been excited about the future of Charli XCX's career in music ever since she made her debut around 2 years ago. Currently working on her third studio album, the quirky performer -- who also writes for other artists -- is definitely going to become huge in 2014.
