One of the most important babies in pop music history was born on January 7th, and her name immediately shot to the top of the worldwide Twitter trends.
Blue Ivy Carter, the first child of Beyonce and Jay-Z, is already making a name for herself. Or should we say, Bey and Jay's music and lyrics are making a name for her.
Firstly, Jay-Z just released a new track on his Life and Times blog called "Glory feat. B.I.C." with the cutest ever daddy's-little-girl lyrics:
The most amazing feelin' i feel, words can't describe what i'm feelin' for real / Baby i paint the sky blue, my greatest creation was you
Hard not to spoil you rotten lookin' like lil' me...The most beautifulest thing in this world, is daddy's little girl
You're the child of destiny / You're the child of my destiny / You're the child with the child from Destiny's Child / That's a hell of a recipe, glory, glory, glory
Did you hear that? That's the sound of an entire globe going "awwww" at the same time.
But now on to the actual name. What may at first blush seem like another kooky celebrity baby name, Blue Ivy actually hosts some deep meaning and genuine thought behind it. Beginning with "Blue", we can already see the obvious link to Jay-Z's trilogy "Blueprint" albums, as well as an homage to his stomping grounds of New York since blue is the color of the Yankees. Not to mention he often freckles his lyrics with the color to show his patriotism:
And I do what the thugs and the gangsta's do / I ain't a blood but I'm war'ing with the boys in blue - Jockin' Jay-Z
Blue Magic, that's a brand name / Like Pepsi, that's a brand name - Blue Magic
Boys in blue who put greed before the badge / The first pusher whoever made the stash - Roc Boys
I made the Yankee hat more famous than a Yankee can / You should know I bleed blue, but I ain't a Crip though / But I got a gang of n*ggas walking with my clique, though - Empire State of Mind
Even more, "Blue" consists of 4 letters, which everyone and their dog knows is Bey-Z's special number (Beyonce's b-day is September 4, Jay-Z's is December 4, Bey's mama's birthday is January 4, Bey-Jay's wedding was on April 4, Queen B's 2011 album was called 4, AND Blue Ivy was born 4 years after they got married). Which now brings us to the Carter Princess's middle name: "Ivy".
"Ivy" contains the letters "IV", also known as the roman numeral for 4—a further homage to the superstar duo's favorite digit.
Yup. Leave it to Bey and Jay to name their daughter something totally cute and amazing and adorable and not even that cheesy and just all around perfect. And since 4 is their lucky number, perhaps we can assume there are 3 more lil' Carters on the way. Fingers crossed!
Congrats Bey and Jay, we can't wait for Blue's first album.
