We chase misprinted lies, we face the path of time
And yet I fight and yet I fight this battle all alone
No one to cry to, no place to call home
My gift of self is raped, my privacy is raked
And yet I find, yet I find repeating in my head
"If I can't be my own, I'd feel better dead"

I really love this song! Lane Staley was a great song writer and his technique of singing conveyed the hurt and pain of his addiction. One can tell by reading the lyrics and listening to the song that he is frustrated and his soul is consumed by despair due to his addiction. Staley felt like his addiction controlled him and if he could not control his addiction, then he would feel better dead.

This is a very powerful song. I think anyone who has experienced hardship in their life would agree and can relate. Unfortunately addiction by its very nature is uncontrollable, especially heroin.
