Sometimes I lay under the moon
And thank God I'm breathin'
Then I pray don't take me soon
'Cause I am here for a reason
Sometimes in my tears I drown
But I never let it get me down
So when negativity surrounds
I know someday it'll all turn around because
All my life I been waitin' for
I been prayin' for, for the people to say
That we don't want to fight no more
They'll be no more wars and our children will play
One day, one day, one day
One day, one day, one day
It's not about win or lose
'Cause we all lose when they feed
On the souls of the innocent, blood-drenched pavement
Keep on movin' though the waters stay ragin'
And in this maze you can lose your way
It might drive you crazy, but don't let it phase you, no way
No way
Sometimes in my tears I drown
But I never let it get me down
So when negativity surrounds
I know someday it'll all turn around because
All my life I been waitin' for
I been prayin' for, for the people to say
That we don't want to fight no more
They'll be no more wars and our children will play
One day, one day, one day
One day, one day, one day
One day this all will change, treat people the same
Stop with the violence, down with the hate
One day we'll all be free and proud to be
Under the same sun singing songs of freedom like
One day, one day, oh
One day, one day
All my life I been waitin' for
I been prayin' for, for the people to say
That we don't want to fight no more
They'll be no more wars and our children will play
One day, one day, one day
One day, one day, one day

One Day Jon F. Matisyahu and Akon, in their song “One Day,” give us a modern view of how we should create peace in our troubled world. The song starts out talking about how everyone has their own thoughts, beliefs and truths(1-2). This suggests a more post-modern style of thinking. But as the song progresses, you start to see that they suggest that we should all think more alike, and that the truth is more universal, in a modern way (12). The song continues and explains, using a metaphor, how we all have our own niche in life (3-4), and we all excel in varying areas. They say, ”We’re all Kings and Queens/ with a throne of our own.” Akon and Matisyahu also point out that sticking together and being in community is the only way to make it through life (7-10). In the chorus, Akon and Matisyahu send out a plea to the world to end the violence and hate, and live together in a world of shalom (18-22). Also they beg that our children can play together in a world where skin color or nationality doesn’t matter (23-24). But at the same time they recognize that this will take time, and we all must work at it (24). Nobody wins when the innocent and helpless are killed in cold blood. Matisyahu sings, “We all lose/ When they feed on the souls of the innocent/ Blood drenched pavement” (27-29). We need to stop unjust wars and try to create peace and justice in a world where many countries are in turmoil. They go on to say that in life its easy to get lost and off track (30-31). But you must maintain your focus and keep your eyes on the road ahead of you (32-33). The song winds to an end with the last couple verses reiterating their plea for no more violence and a world of peace (38-45). We should put aside all racial hate, discrimination, violence, and slavery and live in a world of equality (38-45). The song as a whole leaves us contemplating what part we can do to change the world.

This is such an amazing song. Every song Matisyahu sings is just like Bob Marley, he sings things that are true and so does Bob Marley. Changing the world is very difficult and a challenging situation One day, the world could hope for a change with One Day
