Opeth Biography

Opeth is a Swedish heavy metal band that was founded in 1990 in Stockholm. The band has had many personnel changes but Mikael Akerfeldt has remained in the band, is is considered the driving force.

Opeth has had 9studio albums, 2 live albums, 2 box sets, and 2 DVDs. They debut album Orchid was released in 1995, but did not experience US success until 2003 when they released their seventh album Damnation.

Opeth was orginally a death metal band, and the name was derived from the word "Opet" from the Willbur Smith novel Sunbird. Opet is the name of a city on the moon, and there may be some reference to the Opet Festival.
