Panic at the Disco’s sophomore album was released just last March 2008: “Pretty. Odd” and was 2nd on the US music chart.
The band’s current members are:
-Brendon Urie – (birthdate April 12, 1987) on vocals, bass guitar, rhythm guitar, drums, and keyboards
-Jon Walker – (birth date undisclosed) on bass guitar and on vocals
-Ryan Ross – (birth date August 30, 1986) on lead guitar, keyboards, and vocals
-Spencer Smith (birth date September 2, 1987) – on percussion and on drums
Former member of Panic at the Disco: Brent Wilson (birth date undisclosed) – on bass guitar
Panic at the Disco originated in the town of Summerlin in Las Vegas, and was started by childhood friends Smith and Ross, with Ross serving as the guitarist and Smith serving as the drummer. They decided to use the name “Pet Salamander” together with their other friends Brent Wilson and Trevor Howell, who later on left the band. Urie replaced Howell and became the group’s lead vocalist. The name “Pet Salamander” was also changed into: “Panic at the Disco”.
The group after some time decided to contact Fall Out Boy’s Pete Wentz and gave him an Internet link to their site. After watching the band’s practice, it was agreed upon that Panic at the Disco will sign with the Decaydance label.
In 2005, Panic at the Disco made their debut album entitled “A Fever You Can't Sweat Out” available to the public. The band also gained a loyal fan base over the Internet through MySpace and PureVolume. Panic at the Disco was eventually featured on MTV in 2006 because of their increasing success. It was in MTV that the group’s video for their track "I Write Sins Not Tragedies" was shown which featured the Lucent Dossier Vaudeville Cirque in a circus theme. Panic at the Disco’s video was later on awarded “Video of the Year” at the 2006 MTV Video Music Awards. “I Write Sins Not Tragedies” also debuted to #7 in the music charts after it was released in April 2006. In May, Wilson left the group and claimed that he was fired. The other members, however, denied this. Walker replaced Wilson as Panic at the Disco’s bassist which was at first a temporary thing, but eventually led Walker to become a permanent band member.
Last January of 2008, Panic at the Disco released their follow-up album: “Pretty. Odd” with its lead single: "Nine in the Afternoon". The album eventually held the 2nd spot in the Albums chart in the UK as well as in the US chart. “Pretty. Odd” topped the charts in Australia. In August 2008, Panic at the Disco went on their “Pretty. Odd. World Tour”, holding their concert in various countries like Singapore, the Philippines, Australia, New Zealand, etc. The group was accompanied by the following artists: Cobra Starship and The Academy Is… Panic at the Disco’s tour in New Zealand and Australia.
Currently (2009), Panic at the Disco is working on their follow-up album which is expected to be available within the year. The group is also expected to collaborate with Blink 182’s Mark Hoppus on one of the album’s tracks.
