The late Patrick Swayze has been honoured by a group of dancers.


Career Transition for Dancers, which helps dancers who have been injured or are seeking a new direction with age, has bestowed its annual award on actor Swayze at a gala event in New York City.


Swayze's wife and high school sweetheart Lisa Niemi appeared to fight back tears as she accepted the group's Rolex Dance Award. She told the audience Swayze was now "dancing with the angels".

Private service pays tribute to Patrick Swayze

Mourners gathered in their hundreds to pay their last respects to Patrick Swayze at a private service held in Culver City, California.


The actor, who died of pancreatic cancer at the age of 57, was honoured in a service that combined his love of dancing and horses.


The private memorial was held at the Los Angeles Sony Studios lot, where one of the Dirty Dancing actor's white horses was saddled up with a pair of boots facing back to front in the stirrups.


Lisa Niemi, Swayze's wife and childhood sweetheart, organised the service, which included photographs and a video tribute. Professional dancers were also brought in to perform.

Patrick Swayze's just-released autobiography has some tantalising Hollywood tid bits.


Swayze says Tom Cruise was so self-conscious about his teeth, he refused to appear in magazine shoots. The pair appeared as unknowns together in The Outsiders, a Francis Ford Coppola film that came out in 1983.


In The Time Of My Life, which was co-written with Lisa Niemi, Swayze said relations between him and his co-star Jennifer Grey were icy to start. Though the pair had appeared as bandidos in Red Dawn, it was "probably safe to say she couldn't stand me".

Patrick Swayze was left frustrated by co-star Jennifer Grey's childish behaviour on the set of their hit 1987 movie, Dirty Dancing, he revealed in his memoirs.


The actor said she kept ruining scenes by bursting into laughter.

The Dirty Dancing star and wife Lisa Niemi had longed for a baby, but were left devastated when Niemi suffered a miscarriage three months into her pregnancy.

Patrick Swayze died of cardiac arrest, death certificate reveals

Hollywood legend Patrick Swayze died of a "cardiorespiratory arrest", according to his death certificate.


The Dirty Dancing star passed away at home surrounded by family and friends at 10am on September 14.


Now, just three days later, his death certificate has been released showing the immediate cause of death as a cardiac arrest.


The certificate also lists "Advanced Pancreatic Cancer" as a condition leading to the cause of death.


The certificate also reveals that the actor's remains are being held at his lawyer's offices in Los Angeles while arrangements are being made for his final resting place.
