Pink Floyd Biography

Syd Barrett, David Gilmour, Roger Waters, Nick Mason, and Richard Wright, make up the psychedelic rock group from the U.K. called: “Pink Floyd”. With Barrett on vocals and guitar, Gilmour on guitar, Mason on drums, and Wright on keyboards, the band has produced one-of-a kind music characterized by various special effects, stretching pop to its limits.
Pink Floyd’s Wright, Mason, and Waters, started as the Architectural Adbabs, and was then transformed into the “Pink Floyd Sound,” in 1965, thanks to Barrett, the new member who had the idea for the name we know now. The band’s first set of albums were truly experimental---this fact is quite evident in their performances as they are one of the very first rock bands who made use of light shows.
In 1973, Pink Floyd came up with the album named: “Dark Side of the Moon,” which made them a chart topper. In fact, the said album is definitely included in the list of the ‘top selling records’ of all time, even remaining on the Billboard Top 200 chart for up to twenty five years. Other successful albums created by Pink Floyd include: 1975’s Wish You Were Here, 1977’s Animals, and 1979’s The Wall.
When the 80’s came, Pink Floyd’s members drifted apart. The band members’ feet were brought down to the ground in the 80s due to leadership fights. However, come 1987, Mason, Wright, and Gilmour rejoined and released “A Momentary Lapse of Reason.” In 1996, because of the band’s best selling records, Pink Floyd was given a place in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Other interesting facts about the group:
• The Wall, which was a film in 1982 with actor Bob Geldof, was actually inspired by Pink Floyd’s album with the same title.
• Pink Floyd is a name that is a combination of the names of bluesmen: Pink Anderson and Floyd Council.
Pink Floyd’s lyrics and song concepts were a combination of classical, space, and operatic music, not only in sound, but also in their words. No matter if the fame for this group has ended, that still does not change the fact that they had the ability to head the charts as well as fill concert venues and stadiums with huge amounts of supporters. Pink Floyd, is without a doubt, a unique group, able to mix innovation with personal expressions, thus, making their band name and their songs unforgettable.
