i think you guys need to stop thinking so deeply into stuff and just go with the beauty of the music... to ****ume that the lyrics of this song are more than the personal opinions of the artist is redundant... they think this... we might not... but what we can be sure of is that these people have a p****ion for what they do... keep in mind however that this could all be a part of their music style... not to down tool or anything.

I for one do not think the lyrics employ the use of metaphor or allegory as some have suggested. The meaning is blatantly straightforward and to the point.

It suggests a sort of poetic justice for a divisive humankind. That a society beholden to war such as we have created should be destroyed "cut right in two" in the same manner in which it was created by a misguided human race.

I can not say that I do not disagree, but there is still hope in this world. It is the ubiquitous overwhelming darkness that ironically accentuates the light of Jesus Christ in this world. Open your eyes and look around sometime... it may be easier to see than you had imagined.

The lyrics also suggest that to have such a distinctive capability, and forgo the use of such a gift would be utterly repugnant given the finite amount of time we are here. See you around!

I think this song is about dropping a deuce. Your sphincter contracts, and the terd breaks "Right In Two".

I personally think this songs about how humans just cant seem to come to a compromise and they always have to argue and fight over everything no matter how minuscule.

this song to me reflects more of what we as humans failed to do as yaphank said, but does not reflect the meaning of our own lives. Moreover, this song shows what the meaning of life was supposed to be. Searching for your own personal purpose in life is shown in their album 'Lateralus'. each song on that album reflects a phase in the evolution of ones self, and i believe the true meaning of life is found within the title song itself, Lateralus. i won't talk about what i think the meaning of life is because its more fun to decipher tool's lyrics in your own way. Tool ftw.

Great choice of words! There are so many times in our lives that we can make better, but we choose not to because of the simple fact that we decide to help ourselves instead of really helping the people around up. Call it what you want, but something needs to be done, and the only way it will is if people actually listen and decide to take action. Tool does an amazing job of conveying a simple message through their music and turn it into something so elaborate, something so powerful and makes you think of what they meant by the song. Today's society needs an aspiring look on the world, through someone else's eyes. Tool is the one to provide that! 100%

That sounds like some communist ideal, yaphank(fair share, trying to make this world better, greater good etc)I guess what they want to "teach" through the lyrics goes a little deeper and it has to do with realizing who we really are(One)and stopping with the childish behaviour, living in separation. So yeah,it's not about "working" as one body, but realizing we're one body. After that, everything falls in to place and the things you talked about, yaphank, get to happen.Realization is the key though
The actual lyrics..talk more about how humans continue to fight like idiots and live in their beloved separation
And all in all,I feel the same about my dear earthlings
