My ballad of a dark queen echoes through light
As he feels the curse of gods, the Pharaoh's wrath
One thousand one nights unseen
The philosopher and the queen
Ancient mariner in a sea of sand
The burning beauty his tomb to die for
One thousand one nights unseen
The philosopher and the queen
(Horizon's swarming with death, run)
Heaven has a darkened face
Dunes are soaring as on a chase
Caravan of the cursed
Chasing him across the waves
May he now rest under aegis of mirage
As the sands slowly turn to Elysian fields
One thousand one nights unseen
The philosopher and the queen
(One thousand one)
One thousand one nights unseen
The philosopher and the queen
(One thousand one)
One thousand one
One thousand one

I heard this song the other night and I thought of this tale of a philospoher and an egyptian queen running through the desert together, trying to get away from the pharaoh who she was with, a tale of romace so to speak. But I don't think this is what Nightwish was going for!! Also, on serious terms, I think it is talking about a cursed man who is fleeing the wrath of some higher power, in a nearly impossible chase across the desert, and the gods don't care, such is the line" Heaven has a darkened face" and the part with the "Caravan of the cursed, chasing him across the waves" Someone is escaping, or trying to from something.
