Seether Biography
Seether is a band that plays post-grunge music, and was formed in 1999 in South Africa. The group’s current label is Wind-up Records, but they first started under Musketeer Records. Seether band members used to call themselves: “Saron Gas”, but then decided to make use of Seether in 2002. The group, to date, boasts of sales totaling to 5,000,000, in terms of number of albums, worldwide.
The current members of Seether are:
* Shaun Morgan on lead guitar and lead vocals (December 21, 1978)
* Troy McLawhorn on guitar (birth date undisclosed)
* Dale Stewart – on bass and back-up vocals (birth date undisclosed)
* John Humphrey – on drums (birth date undisclosed)
Previous members: Nick Oshiro (July 29, 1978) on drums and Pat Callahan (birth date undisclosed) on lead guitar.
Seether’s debut album was entitled “Disclaimer”, but it was released under their former name Saron Goas. The band, however, went on tour for their debut album under their present name: Seether. After the tour, Seether was supposed to work on their second studio album, but instead, they were asked to join in Evanescence World Tour. During the tour, Seether remade the acoustic track “Broken” and transformed it into an electric ballad, with Evanescence’s Amy Lee singing with Morgan during their shows. Because of the positive reviews, Seether and Amy Lee immediately recorded another version of the song. “Broken” and another Seether track “Sold Me” were featured in 2004’s film: “The Punisher”. The said tracks gave Seether fame not only in the US, but also in Australia and the UK.
The year after (2005), Seether made available their sophomore album “Karma and Effect”. The album hit the 8th spot on Billboard’s 200 Album Charts. One of its singles: “Remedy” became a chart-topper on the Mainstream Rock Charts in the US, giving Seether their first number one hit.
In 2006, Seether made an announcement in their website that Callahan is leaving the group. No reason was given as to why Callahan chose to let go of Seether. The band was also supposed to tour with Three Days Grace as well as Staind, but had to cancel because of the fact that Morgan had to go into rehabilitation because of his alcohol dependency.
In 2007, Seether’s third album called “Finding Beauty in Negative Spaces” was released and reached the 9th spot on Billboard’s 200 Album chart, reaching total sales of more than 50,000 copies in its first week of release. The album’s lead single entitled “Fake It” reached the top of the charts for Mainstream Rock as well as Modern Rock in the US, holding its position for a total of nine weeks on both charts. “Fake It” was also used as WWE’s theme for No Way Out last year (2008).
The second single of the album: “Rise Above This” also became a chart topper on the Modern Rock Chart. In February of last year, a new member has been added to Seether: Troy McLawhorn, now the band’s official touring guitarist. It was also in 2008 that Seether went on tour in support of their success in the release of “Rise Above This”. The tour featured different bands like Papa Roach, 3 Doors Down, Staind, Breaking Benjamin, etc.
During the 1st quarter of the current year ‘09, Seether’s new track: "No Shelter" was included in NCIS’ Official TV Soundtrack. Seether was also made busy as they have supported Nickelback’s 2009 Dark Horse Tour. The group is currently on break and will be back to work on their fourth album.
