Shania Twain 'not engaged'

Country singer Shania Twain has said she is not engaged to boyfriend Fred Thiebaud.


Rumours started when Twain was photographed with a ring on her finger. However, her representative has said she is "not engaged or married to Fred".


Twain and her husband, Robert "Mutt" Lange, split in May 2008 after the singer discovered Lange's affair with the couple's longtime secretary, Marie-Anne Thiebaud. She also managed the couple's Swiss estate and was married to Fred at the time.


Twain and Fred were said to have later bonded over their public marital failures.

Country singer Shania Twain said she is giving fans a "small gift" to celebrate her birthday later this month.


Twain turns 44 on August 28 and, in a video on her website, she said that fans should check her site as she promised them something special.


She said: "Hi everyone, Shania here. First to start off... thank you for all the beautiful birthday wishes for [eight-year-old son] Eja's birthday."


Twain added: "Secondly, if you haven't already seen on my website, for August 28 on my birthday, I will be giving you a small gift of thanks for all of your support over the last year."

Shania Twain will join the string of starlets recruited to guest judge on American Idol following the departure of a lone judging powerhouse - Paula Abdul.


Twain, who had a high-profile marriage break-up a year ago, will follow Victoria Posh Beckham onto the show. Katy Perry and Mary J Blige are other named guest judges, but Jessica Simpson, whose father was said to be pushing for her inclusion, will not be on the panel.


Simpson's father vigorously denied that he ever was campaigning for Idol. "So, I am in Thailand ... But, of course, The Post says I am in town trying to get [Jessica] to be the replacement for Paula Abdul.... Do the lies ever stop????"
