Snow Patrol Biography

Snow Patrol is a Glasgow based band, formed in the year 1994 in Dundee. Snow Patrol’s music is mixed rock/pop. They work under the label Polydor Records. The first two members of the group were Gary Lightbody and Mark McLelland, who first used the name: “Shrug”. The year after, the two decided to change the band’s name into “Polar Bear”. Eventually, the name “Snow Patrol” was utilized.
Snow Patrol launched “Starfighter Pilot EP” in 1997, under a different label: Electric Honey. The record also featured Stuart Murdoch and Richard Colburn of Belle and Sebastian. The “Starfighter Pilot EP” was followed by “Little Hide”, introduced, again, under a different label, Jeepster Records. It had a single entitled: “One Hundred Things You Should Have Done in Bed”, which became a small hit on the Indie Charts. In 1998, Snow Patrol’s first album called: “Songs for Polarbears” was released, followed by “When It’s All Over We Still Have to Clear Up” in 2001, still under Jeepster.
The group, after a few months, was let go by Jeepster, and signed under Polydor Records. Snow Patrol’s single called “Run” travelled all the way up to number five in the UK. The band also had their first album under Polydor entitled “Final Straw” in 2003, which reached the third spot. “Chocolate”, “Spitting Games”, etc. were also their follow-up singles, which were included in the Top 40.
In the United States, “Final Straw” sold more than 250,000 copies. Snow Patrol then joined U2 on the so called European tour: “Vertigo”. The group was also one of the participants in the Live 8 concert. Snow Patrol also remade “Isolation”, a John Lennon hit which was made part of “Instant Karma: the Amnesty International Campaign to Save Darfur”, a tribute.

In May of 2006, Snow Patrol made their second album entitled “Eyes Open” available to the public. One of the album’s songs: “Chasing Cars” became part of the Grey’s Anatomy soundtrack, which also helped give more fame to the band. Another song, “Open Your Eyes”, was heard in one of ER’s episodes. “Tell Me You Love Me”, on the other hand, was showcased in Gavin and Stacey, A popular comedy show in the UK. Snow Patrol’s 'Signal Fire' was also the main tune in the soundtrack for Spider Man 3. “Eyes Open” also gained the award of “Best Selling Album” (2006), which had total sales of over one million.
