I don't wanna be the girl who laughs the loudest
Or the girl who never wants to be alone
I don't wanna be that call at four o'clock in the mornin'
'Cause I'm the only one you know in the world that won't be home

Ah, the sun is blindin'
I stayed up again
Oh, I am findin'
That's not the way I want my story to end

I'm safe up high, nothing can touch me
But why do I feel this party's over?
No pain inside, you're my protection
But how do I feel this good sober?

I don't wanna be the girl that has to fill the silence
The quiet scares me 'cause it screams the truth
Please don't tell me that we had that conversation
'Cause I won't remember, save your breath
'Cause what's the use?

Ah, the night is callin'
And it whispers to me softly, "Come and play"
But I, I am fallin'
And if I let myself go I'm the only one to blame

I'm safe up high, nothing can touch me
But why do I feel this party's over?
No pain inside, you're like perfection
But how do I feel this good sober?

Comin' down, comin' down, comin' down
Spinnin' 'round, spinnin' 'round, spinnin' 'round
I'm lookin' for myself, sober

Comin' down, comin' down, comin' down
Spinnin' 'round, spinnin' 'round, spinnin' 'round
Lookin' for myself, sober

When it's good, then it's good, it's so good 'til it goes bad
'Til you're trying to find the you that you once had
I have heard myself cry 'never again'
Broken down in agony, just tryin' find a friend, oh, oh

I'm safe up high, nothing can touch me
But why do I feel this party's over?
No pain inside, you're like perfection
But how do I feel this good sober?

I'm safe up high, nothing can touch me
But why do I feel this party's over?
No pain inside, you're like perfection
But how do I feel this good sober?

    I love this.
I am not allowed to be sober, though.
I don't even want to be.

this is actually a reply to Foldit:-
I interpret the song EXACTLY as you can, only im going to take a guess that im a good few years younger than you, cause i can see my whole life in this song RIGHT NOW, im still in my youth.. The night calling, and me falling, its my life now.. Im ****g it up completly, im in the middle of my graduation exams, and i spent the day down the park drinking with other friends who have the time to cause they arent going through the graduation exams, all my friends that are were at home studying.. and all i want to do is 'find the you {me} that you {I} once had' - only ive never had it, because ive always been like this since it was leagal to drink and party where i live (the age is 16, but you get served from 13-14 onwards)

but its nice to know that i may not turn out to be a ****-up, from reading this forum im not the only one - and I hope your baby-sister got through it all okay too..

I can see almost all of you interpret this song in a different way than I do.

I think it's an awesome song, but it's also really sad. I can read a lot of my youth and especially my baby sister's youth into it. Of course it's only my interpretation and it might be totally off.

As I read it, the song is about insecurity, need for acknowledgment and a feeling that life around you p****es much quicker than you can keep up.

Alcohol and ****s (i.e. party life) keep you up high in the absence of what you actually would have needed to keep you up, to keep you feeling good. However, eventually that "party's over". As you go there's no pain, you have protection. But, when it's over - how do you obtain the same thing - how do you feel good sober?

Under influence yo're safe, up high and nothing can touch you. At the same time you know that the times of doing what yo're doing is over. But how can you leave it and still feel good? How do you feel as good Sober?

Of course I'm just a random guy, but that's what the song means to me

    Here's the true meaning dip-****!
Pink wrote this song at a party hosted at her home, where everyone was drunk or drinking except for her, and she wanted them all to leave. She went to the beach and had a line in her head saying "How do I feel so good sober?". Eventually it had nothing to do with alcohol but with identities. "How do I feel so good with just me, without anyone to lean on?", Pink says in an interview.[3] She also stated that the song was one of the darkest she wrote for the album. "Sober is a dark, kind of sad song. And it’s about the vices that we choose and I had this idea in my head, ‘Like how do I feel this good sober?...I don’t know it’s just a really, really personal beautiful song, one of my favorites…"

Uhm... People, this song is not about "Sober" as opposed to drunk! Or at least, the song is not about drinking or not drinking it's about when a relationship gets "sober". Does anyone agree with me? It's about how she prefers to be realistic about the lot of her relationship and relationships in general. Didn't you notice she is speaking about someone else? Obviously her boyfriend. E.g.: "Please don't tell me that we had that conversation", "You're like perfection/my protection" But why do I feel this party's over refers to her state of relationship. That is also why she expresses fear of her own straying away, "the night is calling and it whispers to me soflty come to play. But If I fall I'll be the only one to blame"
"I don't wanna be the girl who laughs the loudest, or the girl who never wants to be alone"... She is talking about a relationship in "recession", expressing anticipation that things will end "coming down coming down coming down". If you pay attention to the whole of the lyrics you will immediately know. Great though if the song helped some of you quit drinking, but that's not what she's singing about. Btw the song is Awesome!

I totally disagree with you! I just responded to your analysis of the song. I wrote a long as reply, and the dumb thing told me I had to be a member. But, anyway, look at the lyrics again, and then think of it in the context of someone being addicted. It's so easy to see, and apparently, it was for everyone else, as well. But if it helps you with a relationship, then more power to you!
