Absolutely the greatest song of all time. I can never get enough of Zep neither can I of this song. The entire Led Zeppelin IV album is amazing, every song really takes you on a trip. And to all of you who consider this evil or devil worship- open your eyes. This song isnt the only song you people call devil worship. A song is a song and if its great, accept the fact that its great. If this song really does harm to people who listen to it, over 3/4ths of the world would be worshipping the "devil" by now. Zeppelin are Gods of music; that is why their songs will forever be played again and again by those of us who truly appreciate their music.

I lost alot of friends to ****s & war back then & this song is sacred to me. I don't dissect the meaning of each line but I know that those I lost have walked the Stairway to Heaven. We each interpret music differently, that's what it's all about.

As another poster has already mentioned, self and self-revelation are a big part of the theme, but also tradition--what the Zep boys considered European tradition, anyway. The lyrics are a paean to paganism, and that's what made the song so threatening to the religious "backmasking" crowd; they saw it as a recruitment poster for pagans.

Growing up I had always heard that this song played backwards, was devil worship... I always loved this song, but really got to apprishate it as I got older, so one day I decided to look up the lyrics.... To me it clearly spoke of Paganism/ Wicca Hello May Queen... I was already on that path myself, so I felt sure it was. After beging on this path for awhile now, im positive it is..... So as you and I both know, its not evil... Just a different path.
