Born to push you around,
Better just stay down.
You pull away,
He hits the flesh,
You hit the ground.

Mouth so full of lies,
Tend to black your eyes.
Just keep them closed,
Keep praying,
Just keep waiting.

(Chorus:)
Waiting for the one!
The day that never comes!
When you stand up and feel the warmth!
But the sunshine never comes!

No the sun shine never comes.

Push you cross that line,
Just stay down this time.
Hide in yourself,
Crawl in yourself,
You'll have your time.

God I'll make them pay,
Take it back one day.
I'll end this day,
I'll splatter color on this gray.

(Chorus)
Waiting for the one!
The day that never comes!
When you stand up and feel the warmth!
But the sunshine never comes!

Love is a four letter word!
And never spoken here!

Love is a four letter word!
Here in this prison!
I suffer this no longer!
I'll put an end to,
This I swear!
This I swear!
The sun will shine!
This I swear!
This I swear!
This I SWEAR!!!

the lyrics are wrong. it's "son shine," not "sunshine." check the album if you don't believe me.

I'm no fan of Metallica, yet I have to say that this is a great song!

"You know wich is the day that never comes?
Tomorrow; Because, when it comes, It's Today"
    Heard that on the radio..

I don't think the video is meant to reveal the text in it's whole but to give an idea of what it's about. And it's not hard to make a connection between recent wars and religion. I think it's about our day humanity, this world, it's politics, religion and the consequences is shown in the vid. Actually there has been alot of these critical lyrics from heavy metal bands during the former US administration. It's an interesting text non the less.

    Dear redblade627,

I have seen the video and i get why you interpret the song being about war which is fine cause it totally makes sense but songs are meant to be interpreted by fans in different ways.. everyone who listens to a song is going to hold a meaning to it in a different way.. and yours isn't always the right one. I think I'm dead on but i may not be.. oh **** well it makes sense to me and so do my other interpretations. I think this song is so versitile you can't put a single meaning to it though.

I think this song is about 2 people in a relationship.. Maybe a couple .. maybe a father and daughter or viseversa..With the couple idea i think that it's talking about how the girl is being abused by this person weither it be physically or mentally and she holds onto the relationship because she thinks that that's love in reality it's not.. And so she stays in the relationship and the day that "never comes" is the day that she will walk away from it all. Or if it's about Family relationships it could be talking about a Dysfunctional one where no one in it truley knows how to show love So that day of realization never comes. That's just my opinion though i guess it's open for everyone's interpretation.. take it as you will.

Wow. My favorite band. My favorite song. It's true, it's SON shine, not SUN shine. It's written on the album lyrics...

    BTW, Metallica rocks!!!

in an MTV interview, the song lyrics were said to have been made to tackle the subject of forgiveness and resentment. The band's drummer Lars Ulrich claimed that the lyrics were inspired by a father-son relationship. The content of the video itself is of a different theme or setting that what the lyrics themselves were written about, a second interpretation. The video is said to be in a war background in comparison to the "One" video, but will not make any modern day references as in the war in Iraq and the Middle East (although the video depicts images of Middle East war in present day, making that affirmation false). Frontman James Hetfield spoke on the lyrics of the song and also the radical difference of the song lyrics and vision intended to the music video.

Lead guitarist Kirk Hammett and Ulrich also commented by stating ultimately, the concept of the video deals with humanity and the relationships between human beings and how your basic sense of humanity can override any sort of politicized sitution
