I scraped my knees when I was praying
And found a demon in my safest haven, seems like
It's getting harder to believe in anything
Than just to get lost in all my selfish thoughts
I wanna know what it'd be like
To find perfection in my pride
To see nothing in the light
Turn it off in all my spite
In all my spite, I'll turn it off
And the worst part is
Before it gets any better we're heading for a cliff
And in the free fall I will realize
I'm better off when I hit the bottom
The tragedy it seems an ending
I'm watching everyone I looked up to break and bending
We're taking shortcuts in for solutions
Just to come out the hero
Well, I can see behind the curtain
The world's cranking, turning so wrong
The way we're working
Towards a goal, that's not existent
It's not existent but we just keep believing
And the worst part is
Before it gets any better we're heading for a cliff
And in the free fall I will realize
I'm better off when I hit the bottom
I wanna know what it'd be like
To find perfection in my pride
To see nothing in the light
Just turn it off in all my spite
In all my spite, I'll turn it off
Just turn it off again, again, again, yeah
And the worst part is
Before it gets any better we're heading for a cliff
And in the free fall I will realize
I'm better off when I hit the bottom
And the worst part is
Before it gets any better we're heading for a cliff
And in the free fall I will realize
I'm better off when I hit the bottom

Can someone explain to me what this song means exactly? I understand bits of it, but not all of it as a whole.

I believe what is being said is that she (just assuming Haley here) was always secure with herself and accepted her flaws but all of a sudden she's letting doubting herself and is becoming more concerned with her own flaws (a demon in her safe haven). She wants to look at herself and see perfection in her flaws and to not judge herself. She wants it to be like turning off the lights, when it's dark you can't see your own flaws. She wants to turn off the judgement. The chorus is essentially saying that before she can reach that non-judgmental "perfect" state she has to break herself down to find where the problem is ("before it gets any better we're headed for a cliff") and in going off that "cliff" she's gonna see all the flaws in not only herself but the world, and find that there is never going to be a world without judgment and flaws, there is always going to be suffering and hate, so wouldn't she be better off to just keep falling until she "hits the bottom"? The second verse is basically resting what she has already said, looking closely at the world it all looks hopeless and helpless, everyone is obsessed with looking like they're good, but not with actually being good. But she can "see behind the curtain" she sees the front everyone is putting up, and realizes it's all fake, and shes losing respect and hope for humanity basically. The rest of the song is repeat, so I wont go I to it again. It's kind of a depressing emo-ish song when you really dissect it, isn't it? But I still love it!!!'
I hope this helped you out. Sorry if it's a bit wordy, I get into this review stuff!
I'm also interested in hearing other peoes opinions! Feel free to debate my review!

well i think that this song is about how she used to always be comfortable with her life and the way she saw the world and now everything's changing and she doesn't really get the point to believing in a god and she wants to know what it be like not beliving in anything not having to follow rules and live up to expectations . and to not care about anything .when it get to the course she say the worst part about everything is that she's gonna have to eventually go through all the judgement and all the other stuff she didn't want to face before it gets any better.and when she says "And in the free fall I will realize I'm better off when I hit the bottom" she means that she will soon come to realize that she better of dead
srry if this was really direct but that what i got from it and srry if you didn't get what i said just read it over a few times and you probably will

LyricPhreak is right it's 'again' (3 times) with no yeah afterwards, there are so many small details that who ever posted these lyrics got incorrect it's aggravating because this song is amazing.
LyricPhreak
It's not "o god o god o god", and it's not "okay okay okay", the correct lyrics are "again again again" (it only says "again" one time in the textbook, but i don't think anybody would disagree with me when i say that she sings it three times). And there's no "yeah" after the agains. By the way, Paramore rocks, they're the greatest band in the world!
