Usher Biography

Usher Raymond IV, is Usher’s real name. He was discovered by a La Face executive after joining a talent show in Atlanta. A choir boy at 14, Usher was asked to audition for L.A. Reid, La Face’s co-founder. He liked what he heard so he signed Usher under his label.
Usher made his debut in 1994 with a self titled album: “Usher”. His album also featured “Puff Daddy”, who was his co-executive producer. “Think of You” was the first single in the album, responsible for making Usher’s name known. The said single also went gold, thus, Usher found himself being offered projects from left to right.

A year after his debut, Usher was paid to record Coca Cola’s holiday jingle. He also partnered with teen sensation Monica for the remake of “Let’s Straighten It Out”, originally performed by Latimore. In 1997, just after Usher graduated from high school, “My Way”, his sophomore album was launched with the goal to let people know of his songwriting talent and his maturity. Usher was co-writer of most of the songs in the album, and asked for the help of Baby Face, Jermaine Dupri, and Puff Daddy (again).

“You Make Me Wanna” was the first single in “My Way”, which created more Usher buzz, re-establishing him into R&B stardom. “You Make Me Wanna” stayed on Number 1 on the R&B charts for more than ten weeks, gained the second spot on the pop charts, and turned into double platinum. Other singles in the album like: “My Way” and “Nice and Slow” also turned platinum.
Usher also acted in a couple of movies. He appeared in “The Faculty”, a horror spoof shown in 1998, and 1999’s “Light It Up”, which was under the drama genre about life in high school. It was also in 1999 when Usher introduced “Live in 1999”, a concert recording. His third album was released in the latter part of the year 2000, and was named: “All About U”.

In 2001, his fourth album: “8701” removed him from the list of teen pop stars, but instead, took him to a new level as a seductive R&B artist. 2004 gave Usher chart topping hits like “Yeah!” which won “Best Rapped” award, and a Grammy awarded album entitled “Confessions” which won “Best Contemporary R&B Album”. Usher starred in 2005’s “In the Mix” which turned out to be a flop, and launched “Here I Stand” in 2008.
