Me and all my friends
We're all misunderstood
They say we stand for nothing
And there's no way we ever could
Now we see everything that's going wrong
With the world and those who lead it
We just feel like we don't have the means
To rise above and beat it
So we keep waiting
(Waiting)
Waiting on the world to change
We keep on waiting
(Waiting)
Waiting on the world to change
It's hard to beat the system
When we're standing at a distance
So we keep waiting
(Waiting)
Waiting on the world to change
Now if we had the power
To bring our neighbors home from war
They would have never missed a Christmas
No more ribbons on their door
And when you trust your television
What you get is what you got
‘Cause when they own the information
Oh, they can bend it all they want
That's why we're waiting
(Waiting)

Waiting on the world to change
We keep on waiting
(Waiting)
Waiting on the world to change
It's not that we don't care
We just know that the fight ain't fair
So we keep on waiting
(Waiting)
Waiting on the world to change
And we're still waiting
(Waiting)
Waiting on the world to change
We keep on waiting
(Waiting)
Waiting on the world to change
One day our generation
Is gonna rule the population
So we keep on waiting
(Waiting)
Waiting on the world to change
No, we keep on waiting
(Waiting)
Waiting on the world to change
We keep on waiting
(Waiting)
Waiting on the world to change
Waiting on the world to change
Waiting on the world to change
Waiting on the world to change

Anyone who is silly enough to believe that song lyrics are to be taken sentence for sentence literally, deserves whatever disgruntled feeling they get from this song! I really doubt that John Mayer wants to tell people to sit on their bums and do nothing- I think the song is simply about *FEELING* HELPLESS and the NEED FOR CHANGE. It's sad that you have to spell these things out. There's nothing wrong with people feeling helpless- that's reality- and there's nothing wrong with writing a song about it. (A change is gonna come, anyone?) How could the song be encouraging apathy when it clearly says: "One day our generation is gonna rule the population" Even when you are an activist, change does not happen over night. You still have to go through a period of *waiting*.... Read between the lines, guys.

We're all only here because of God. It will make my life blessed and peaceful. We should never lose with God watching over us

Horrible sentiment and precisely what's wrong with this current generation: Lazy and waiting for the world to change instead of taking action yourselves. Put down your cellphones, pay attention, and do something about it. Write a letter, go to a city council meeting, become an activist (key word: Active), don't be so passive. You *are* the future. Think not only about how you want it to be but how you want to get there.

I think zenimuth is wrong and so is SEEBASSTARD how are you going to change the world not everything is as easy as it seems you think you can trust your tv, you think you can trust the newspaper but if you think about it how are you going to know the truth if everyone and everything makes sure that you never do. It's all a game to the man you can't defend the man cause in the end the man is just gonna turn against you. Patience is key just wait and see (hey that rhymes).

This is a really good song...

This song is right right right... SEEB****TARD below is blinded by his/her America-phobia. I don't even live in the US and I can see how it has deserved all the progress it has made in the 20th century. Hypocritical preachers like SEEB****TARD base their prejudices off anti-American hype. This is what happens when uneducated naysayers get a hold of the internet. John Mayer is making a sardonic observation about society today. (Not just American society, since America is actually the MOST dynamic country around today. People in America are active. People in America protest. The smartest, most beautiful, most influential people in the world LIVE IN AMERICA. No wonder you're jealous. And before you ask, no, I live in Canada.) SEEB****TARD, one day you'll understand and appreciate art such as this. One day you'll see what is wrong with simply hating America. One day you'll know how to spell 'Gandhi'.

****o Zenimuth, Actually SEEB****TARD’s comment is not entirely wrong I think. The part that he’s actually right on par is “You can't wait for the world to change”. And that is soooo true. When enough people have truly awakened from all the oppression of society then maybe, just maybe, the world will change for the better. Only WE or at least the majority of us anyways, can change the world. How? Well to begin, Watch Zeitgeist Addendum (Google it) and find out how!!! BTW Beautiful song indeed

lol. "one day you'll know how to spell Gandhi" that just ****ed me, it was so funny. i 100% agree. this is a wonderful song, and America is a GREAT country (though maybe i'm a little biased because I'm from America)John Mayer makes a beautiful point here, and this song just says it all.
SEEBASSTARD
This song is wrong wrong wrong... It makes our generation look lazy and stupid. Wake up people. This song reminds me why the world hates the USA. You can't wait for the world to change, don't make this song our youth's anthem. Ghandi once said, "we must be the change we want to see in the world." We must be active.
