You sit there in your heartache
Waiting on some beautiful boy to
To save you from your old ways
You play forgiveness
Watch him now, here he come

He doesn?t look a thing like Jesus
But he talks like a gentleman
Like you imagined when you were young

Can we climb this mountain? I don?t know
Higher now than ever before
I know we can make it if we take it slow
That's takin' easy, easy now, watch it go

We?re burning down the highway skyline
On the back of a hurricane that started turning
When you were young
When you were young

And sometimes you close your eyes
And see the place where you used to live
When you were young

They say the Devil?s water it ain?t so sweet
You don?t have to drink right now
But you can dip your feet
Every once in a little while

You sit there in your heartache
Waiting on some beautiful boy to
To save you from your old ways
You play forgiveness
Watch him now, here he come

He doesn?t look a thing like Jesus
But he talks like a gentleman
Like you imagined when you were young
(Talks like a gentleman)
(Like you imagined when)
When you were young

I said he doesn?t look a thing like Jesus
He doesn?t look a thing like Jesus
But more than you?ll ever know

This song is simply a love song. This can be seen by the many hints towards caring and loving for someone. and simply that the song revolves around this girl who is heartbroken and sick of life.

though this boy came along and saved her. evidence to this can be seen by the line "to save you from your old ways." "he doesnt look a thing like jesus" implies that she was looking for a saviour, and he doesnt look anything like what she expects but "he talks like a gentleman" shows that his personality is what she is after.

Climbing the mountain is a metaphor for her getting over her current emotions and troubles. The word "we" is used to create the image that he is there climbing this burden with her.

"burning down the highway skyline" makes a conitation to the fast way out, being her suicide and that it has now been removed from her mind. the following line reminds the listener that even though they have gotten over the suicide that it is still a rough ride being "riding a hurricane."

the devils water is simply tempation. as the devil "sweet" water shows an easier and fun way of life that is wreckless and dangerous. most people run towards this life when they are heart broken or have lost hope. the following lines show that he said he is there for her thus she doesnt have to give herself completely to this wrekless life but she can simply "dip her feet" meaning to relax in this easier life and not to completely adapt to the evils of it.

The last lines" he doesnt look a thing like jesus but he talks like a gentleman but more than you'll ever know" imply that though she is looking for this saviour he doesnt look like him but in reality he is much more of a saviour - as he saved her life - and thus he is more of a saviour than she will ever truly understand.

and bermu29 it says 'talks like a gentlemen, like you imagined when you...'
u retard it doesnt say anything about satin... also i do think it has hidden messages, thats what most song lyrics do, and on purpose, because the best way to send a hidden message to the world is by writing them down in rhymey words and putting good music around them...lol

strawberry91, u got most of it, i think anyway cause i dont no the songwriter, but i think your wrong on when it says
"They say the Devil's water it ain't so sweet
You don't have to drink right now
But you can dip your feet
Every once in a little while"

this is suggesting it's okay to give into temptation in small amounts...

i think its talking about the devils water as in the knowledge that religion doesnt exist and its not so sweet as in athiesism isnt an easy rod to go by, and you dont have to drink right now so u dont have to be overwhelmed by the depression and how much ur dreams will be crushed

So anybody's opinion goes right? It's to bad we can't ask the lyricist what he was trying to say. My opinion is take it at face value. Read the words without the influence of the band noise then make a decision. My standard is pretty simple. If the songwriter has ti hide behind some sort of word illusion then
(harmless or otherwise) then why bother. If there's a point to be made can't you just come right out with it. Does anybody say what they really mean anymore!!?

It's a completely symbolic song, not only about the story in the video but an initiation into the lore of the real savior, who doesn't look a thing like Jesus. The Devil's water is knowledge of the universal truths, and conscience which isn't sweet because it breaks apart silly myths about saviours and everything else also it turns common people against the one who has it, why it's the Devil's, only the wise will know. Also why it makes reference to the place where you lived when you were young, Heheheh He doesn`t look a thing like Jeeesuuus!! Yeah yeah woo

"You sit there in your heartache
Waiting on some beautiful boy to
To save you from your old ways
    You play forgiveness
Watch him now, here he come"

The words save & forgiveness makes us think of Jesus

"He doesn't look a thing like Jesus"

He's not how you imagined your savior would be (the boy you've been waiting for)

"Can we climb this mountain? I don't know
    Higher now than ever before
I know we can make it if we take it slow
That's takin' easy, easy now, watch it go"

"We're burning down the highway skyline
On the back of a hurricane that started turning
    When you were young
    When you were young"

Burning, hurricane, are negative words that bring to mind destruction

"They say the Devil's water it ain't so sweet
You don't have to drink right now
But you can dip your feet
Every once in a little while"

this is suggesting it's okay to give into temptation in small amounts...

"I said he doesn't look a thing like Jesus
He doesn't look a thing like Jesus
But more than you'll ever know"

This part confuses me, WHAT is more than we'll ever know?
He "looks like him"/ is like him more than you'll ever know.

I can't decide if this song is about a true savior...someone who isn't "the beautiful boy" she was waiting for but who ends up saving her anyway...if this is it then the back of hurricane thing could be they are chasing it ....or trying to control it, get a hold of it...maybe symbolic of her past

    OR the complete opposite

It IS the beautiful boy she's been waiting for but because she went for the beautiful boy he's leading her down the wrong path, i don't like this idea

I know some of you will say I'm reading too deep into it, but I'm not...the song is beautiful & symbolic

Please tell me what you think! email me jjflowerchildgirl at yahoo
