I found God on the corner of 1st and Amistad
Where the West was all but won
All alone, smoking his last cigarette
I said, "Where you been?" He said, "Ask anything"

Where were you when everything was falling apart?
All my days were spent by the telephone that never rang
And all I needed was a call that never came
To the corner of 1st and Amistad

Lost and insecure, you found me, you found me
Lying on the floor surrounded, surrounded
Why'd you have to wait? Where were you? Where were you?
Just a little late, you found me, you found me

But in the end everyone ends up alone
Losing her, the only one who's ever known
Who I am, who I'm not and who I wanna be
No way to know how long she will be next to me

Lost and insecure, you found me, you found me
Lying on the floor surrounded, surrounded
Why'd you have to wait? Where were you? Where were you?
Just a little late, you found me, you found me!

The early morning, the city breaks
And I've been calling for years and years and years and years
And you never left me no messages
You never sent me no letters
You got some kind of nerve taking all I want!

Lost and insecure, you found me, you found me
Lying on the floor, where were you? Where were you?

Lost and insecure, you found me, you found me
Lying on the floor surrounded, surrounded
Why'd you have to wait? Where were you? Where were you?
Just a little late, you found me, you found me!

Why'd you have to wait to find me, to find me?

I don't believe in any God's whatsoever, and I don't think this song has anything to do with a particular faith.
On a side note, brilliant song.

I'm sickened by love. Ever since I lost my love, I have no faith, I will be alone for the rest of my life.

this is the one set of footprints in the sand. We ask god why have you forsaken me. Gods response is, but those are my footprints... I was carrying you because you could not walk.

Also in response to Cheekatie, this song is almost like when Jesus lost his faith. Jesus said, "My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?" and the singer of this song is asking the same thing, but rather in today's language.

I think that it depicts God as many people see Him during times of trouble. When horrible things happen, people ask God "Where were you? Why'd you have to wait?" That is the humanity in all of us because we do not see what God sees, only He sees the big picture. You are right when you say God is always there. He is, it is us who does not see Him or seek Him. Though we know this, we still ask during our times of great trouble "Where were you?"

I think you are a good writer and you explained both human nature and the message in the song very well.

I love The Fray because their lyrics have layers and people can interpret them in completely different ways.

It's the cry of every human heart to know God and to know He is there. He really is there. But sometimes when we're in pain and confused we try to humanize him like he is just like one of us. But really, He is nothing at all like us. So much more comp****ionate that we could ever imagine or be. God is love. But we miss out when we limit our idea of who God is by using our earthly experiences to decide who God is and who He is toward us. There is a verse in Isaiah which says that God stands all day long on His knee with his arms stretched out waiting for us to come wanting to embrace us. He wants us but won't make us come. He wants us to come of our own accord and our own free will. Then once we do, we begin

I do not like this song at all. It depicts God as a man with a bad habit that leaves people behind in their hopelessness. God is NEVER late! He is always there. And he doesn't take the things you want away from you. Sin separates us from God, and we must seek Him, not the other way around. He is there for us, no matter what. It's our decision to acknowledge His presence. As far as the "girl" in the song goes, she is not the only one who knows all those things. God knows more about you than you know about yourself. Everyone does not end up alone either. You choose whether you end up in **** with Satan because of your sins, or accept God's forgiveness and spend eternity in Heaven with Him. Obviously I do not like this song. I don't see where you guys get that it says God is a good samaritan when it repeats over and over that he was gone and too late when thigs went wrong. I despise the fact that they play this on WAY-FM, a CHRISTIAN radio station when it suggests that God is not ALWAYS there.

I think you have an odd interpretation of the song. I think one should focus on him finding his faith. It's a stage when you find a faith, rather than accepting what you're dealt at birth. You blame God for the times you felt alone, and thank him for being with you when you need him once again. I am not Christian, but I do have faith, and this is a beautiful and moving song about finding that faith.

i think this song has to do with love and how a person can find what they are looking for when all they have to do look inside and find who they are. and thats the same with wat u need to do with urself.
